WHICH APPLES ARE BEST FOR APPLE CRISP

Choose your favourite apple.

You can use any kind of apple from honey crisp, pink lady, etc. However, for this apple crisp recipe I chose to use Granny Smith {green} because I find them to be a little bitter and they taste great with the sweetness of the coconut sugar and pure maple syrup.

HOW THIN SHOULD APPLES BE FOR APPLE CRISP

The thinner the better; leave the peel on.

Typically, you want to slice your apples as thin as possible, and leave the peel on. This will allow the apples to soften in texture, but also still have a little crunch with the peel left on, which will give you the perfect blend of textures with every bite of this apple crisp. To prepare your apples for this dish take 1 apple and slice it down all four sides as close to the core as possible. Then take your four sides and thinly slice them on an angle.
