Bright and colourful, tasty and healthy, this spinach salad is one that you’ll be taking with you to your next BBQ with friends. It’s the perfect blend of crunchy, sweet and savoury.
Last summer we were invited to a BBQ, and I was asked to bring a salad. Friend, I LOVE salads in the summer, between the freshness of the produce, and the how flavourful the fruits and veggies are that time of year, a salad is SO refreshing.
Combining berries, fresh melon and spinach are how I went about putting this salad recipe together. Of course, these were ingredients I had in my fridge… because as I always say, “get creative with your food“.
WHAT GOES GOOD WITH SPINACH
Best texture, taste and flavour.
I honestly combine spinach with pretty much anything. From smoothies to omelettes, stir-fry’s and more, the options are endless. And of course, spinach salad.
You can finely chop spinach and add it to things like meatloaves, meatballs, pasta sauces and more. It is so easy to sneak into anything without anyone noticing and everyone reaping its amazing nutritional benefits.
Just make sure you finely chop it, it will wilt on its own as it cooks, and boom… you got the kids and perhaps husband fooled.
HOW TO MAKE SPINACH SALAD

Of course, spinach is the main focus of this dish, but not just spinach alone. Between the added fruits, cheese, and spices, the options of other add-ins will have you making this salad over and over again.
- Red Onion
- Feta Cheese
- Black Pepper
Some other optional add-ins for this recipe include:
- Blue Cheese
- Goat Cheese
- Cherry Tomato
- Green Onion
- Black Olives
Depending on what you add with definitely define the taste more. For example, if you aren’t a fan of red onion then sub it for green onion.
Inputting this salad recipe together, I wanted to put together my own dressing too. This was simple, using only the ingredients I had in my fridge and pantry.
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Dijon Mustard
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Black Pepper
- Sea Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Parsley Flakes
CAN YOU MAKE SPINACH SALAD AHEAD OF TIME
Quick, easy and healthy recipe, great for meal prep.
One thing I love about this recipe is that you can make it ahead of time. It is great for meal prep and goes over well. If you are someone who runs low on time and you need to bring a salad along to a gathering this recipe can be made the day before.
The same goes for the dressing. You can make this in advance. It is better made before and letting marinade so that all the flavours come together. Before serving the dressing with the salad, let it come to room temperature and shake really well in the jar or container that it is stored in.

- 8-10 cups or a large carton of spinach
- 1/2 of a cup of strawberries, quartered
- 1/3 of a cup of feta cheese
- 1/4 of a cup of diced red onion
- 1/3 of a cup of cubed watermelon
- Black pepper to taste
- BALSAMIC DRESSING:
- 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp of honey
- 1/2 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/4 of a cup of balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp of parsley flakes
- Prepare and wash the spinach.
- Using a large mixing/serving bowl, add in all spinach, top with all remaining ingredients.
- Prepare salad dressing by combining all the ingredients. Marinate salad dressing for 2-3 hours in the refrigerator before serving.
- Pour dressing over salad, toss and serve.

*Bring salad dressing to room temperature before drizzling on the salad, or use immediately after making. Best if marinated.*
*Salad without dressing is fine refrigerated for 2-3 days.*
